Do you have a passion for performance?
Want to find out what you’re capable of? Whether you’re an aspiring singer, instrumental musician or budding stage manager, Scottish Opera Connect could be for you. Join our year-long workshop programme, make music, create performances, meet new friends and take your talent to the next level.
Connect is made up of Connect Chorus, Connect Orchestra and Connect Stage Management, and is a unique programme which gives you the chance to develop your knowledge, technique and skills with the help of Scotland’s top opera professionals.
Supported by The Bellahouston Bequest Fund, Gordon Fraser Charitable Trust and Scottish Opera's Education Angels.
If you'd like to be involved back stage, then Connect Stage Management is for you!
Connect Stage Management is a unique opportunity for 16 to 19 year olds to learn more about the role of stage managers in producing opera. Mentored by the Connect Company Stage Manager you will, alongside other Scottish Opera professionals, undertake the stage management of the Connect Company end of term production.
You'll work directly with the Connect Chorus and Connect Orchestra in a busy opera rehearsal room, as well as working with professional directors, conductors, repetiteurs, choreographers, vocal coaches and singers.
Entry is by application and interview. Ability to read a music score is not necessary.
If you’re passionate about singing, Scottish Opera’s Connect Chorus is for you!
To become a member of Connect Chorus you must be aged between 16 and 21 and you need to complete our Summer Gateway Course.
Upon completion of our Gateway week, the final Connect Chorus selections will be made. Over the year you'll take part in one to ones, group coaching sessions and masterclasses to help develop your singing and performance skills.
If you love to play, Scottish Opera's Connect Orchestra is for you!
Our Connect Orchestra is for 16 to 21 year old instrumentalists (applicants should be 16 by 1 Dec 2017) and follows a programme of evening and weekend sessions in Glasgow. Professional players from The Orchestra of Scottish Opera will work with you as mentors throughout the course, helping you develop your knowledge and creative skills.
You'll work on technique and ensemble, explore the history and background to all that is opera, and take part in rehearsal sessions and performances with solo singers, guest conductors and choral voices.
Entry is by application and submission of an online audition video. All applicants should be Grade 7 and above.
