Trusts and Foundations
Overview
Over 40 charitable trusts and foundations, large and small, from across the UK, support Scottish Opera’s work each year. This sustained support enables the Company to plan ahead with security, maintain its national reach and fulfil its artistic aspirations. Scottish Opera is extremely grateful to the many trusts and foundations that support the Company’s work.
Garfield Weston Foundation
The support of the Garfield Weston Foundation over several years has been invaluable in helping Scottish Opera deliver a range of activity. In 2010, the Foundation supported Scottish Opera’s programme to ‘open up opera’ to new audiences. Audience development initiatives help us build audiences of the future and ensure that the widest possible audience access and enjoy all areas of our work.
The Gannochy Trust
The Gannochy Trust has been supporting Scottish Opera for over 25 years. This long term support has previously been invested in the Company’s Scotland-wide touring programme. In 2010, the Trust awarded Scottish Opera a grant towards a portfilio of education projects for nursery and primary children. The generosity of The Gannochy Trust has enabled the Company to reach over 2,500 young people across Perthshire.
The John Mather Charitable Trust
In 2009, Scottish Opera launched its Emerging Artist Programme, providing young singers with professional experience as well as regular coaching and mentoring by first-rate artists and Scottish Opera music staff. The John Mather Charitable Trust supports inaugural artist, soprano Nadine Livingston. This crucial support from the Trust has allowed us to extend Nadine’s placement with Scottish Opera until June 2011.
