On 14 March 2010, the Connect Company presented Airheads, a one act youth opera.
Just another ordinary day at the office.
A group of young men are hard at work when a troupe of strange young women force their way into their office – and into their hearts. This ethereal clan bewitch the boys with their supernatural beauty and the promise of adventure. High on life, freedom and alive on fresh air, these girls are not quite all they seem. The boys want the girls and the girls want the boys – but is it possible for them to be together?
A 21st century romance with a twist that asks if settling down really means settling for less.
Scottish Opera Connect is a training programme for young singers which allows them to experience the world of the professional singer and explore the art form of opera.
Twelve singers aged between 14 and 20 have worked with Scottish Opera to develop their vocal techniques and creative skills under the expert tutelage of Scotland’s top opera professionals, from composers and singers to directors, designers and choreographers, through a series of practical workshops and master classes. The programme has evolved to accommodate the needs of the singers at each stage of their development, with a focus on individual vocal training and performance. Now at the end of their second year of tuition, they present their first production, Airheads.
Airheads was first performed by Glyndebourne Youth Opera in 2001, with music by Ian McCrae and libretto by Jane Buckler.
