BabyO

A world first, BabyO is a 30-minute opera for 6-18 month old children.

Since its first groundbreaking tour in 2009, BabyO has been inviting its young audience and their carers into a secret garden full of ducks, fish and busy bees, creating a sensory experience of song, music, sight, touch and texture.

The lyrics and sounds created by the soprano, mezzo-soprano and baritone voices are based on the patterns of developing speech, with the key aim of intorducing babies to the association between either a movement or object and the sound that characterises it.

Following sell-out tours across Scotland and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, BabyO has toured the UK and internationally to venues and festivals including the Tete a Tete Opera Festival in London, the Manchester Intertanional Festival, New Zealand's Christchurch Arts Festival and the Abu Dhabi Arts Festival.

SensoryO

Following the phenomenal success of BabyO, Scottish Opera began work on SensoryO in 2011, as a new interactive opera performance for toddlers and their carers.

Aimed at children aged from 18-36 months, the 30-minute opera is rich in sound, rhythm and music. Toddlers are taken on a magical adventure in a night-time world where a train ride through the jungle leads them to meet a friendly lion who sleeps under the stars.

SensoryO has toured to schools and venues across Scotland, as well as playing to audiences at Tete a Tete Opera Festival in London, the Christchurch Arts Festival in New Zealand and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
