Company Profile: Claire Booth, Soprano
Tell us 3 things people might be surprised to learn about you?
1. I had twin girls 12 sept 2010.
2. I got a double first degree in history from oxford university.
3. I wanted to be a concert pianist till I was 18.
What's your favourite opera moment or character?
Berg's Lulu or Debussy's Melissande. Both really enigmatic characters you have to act, singing isn't enough to do them justice.
What do you do when you're not singing?
Look after my 3 children! I used to play squash, tennis and go to the theatre... not much time these days!
What are you listening to at the moment?
Keith Jarrett The Koln Concert and the Jackson 5.
If you weren't an opera singer, what would be your ideal profession?
Running my own business - but I guess I do that already! No idea.
Tell us your favourite place to be in the world?
Anywhere in Yorkshire (where I'm from!).
What is your proudest moment to date?
Musically, either performing at the Barbican November 2009 with BBCSO in Augenlieder written for me, conducted by the composer, my greatest friend Ryan Wigglesworth... a dream since our Oxford days. Or taking a bow at my ENO debut in Vaughan-Williams Riders to the Sea standing next to my other greatest friend Madeleine Shaw who was also in the cast: standing next to your best friend - just awesome. Personally, no contest - getting married to my husband Chris and having our three children, Max, Lucy and Madeleine.
