Can you describe your job in 1 sentence?
I do everything that’s required to administer a charitable membership scheme and liaise between all the 10 Friends groups around the country and Scottish Opera.
What do you love about working in opera?
It’s the ultimate art form – and nothing is more affecting than the human singing voice. The people are all pretty nice too!
What highlights can you pick out from your 21 years as Friends Manager?
Simon Keenlyside’s performances, The Ring Cycle and every David McVicar production.
If you weren't working in opera, what would be your ideal profession?
Happily I am in my ideal profession!

The close relationship between the audience and the artists makes these performances really special.

What 3 things might people be surprised to learn about you?
I worked in the Edinburgh International Festival Box Office for 18 Festivals, 8 of them as Box Office Manager.
I have met Liz Taylor, Robert Redford, Rudolph Nureyev and Elisabeth Söderström.
I don’t have any real hidden talents, but I can dislocate my thumbs.
Where is your favourite place to be in the world?
Castel Sant’angelo, Rome.
