Synopsis

New York. Rodolfo, a poet, and Marcello, an artist, are struggling to pay the rent on their loft apartment. While working alone, Rodolfo is interrupted by the arrival of his neighbour Mimì. The lights have gone out on her floor and she’s here to ask for help. Rodolfo is troubled by her coughing. A dropped door key brings the couple together – they fall in love. Rodolfo introduces Mimì to his friends at the Momus gallery, including Marcello’s former lover Musetta, who has arrived with Alcindoro, a rich benefactor. Musetta uses her wiles to get back with Marcello and to have Alcindoro pay for everyone. A couple of months later, all is not well. There is jealousy in the air. But Mimì’s rapidly deteriorating health brings all the friends together for one last time.
