Profile: Amy Burkitt-Harrington, Assistant Production Manager
Can you describe your job in 1 sentence?
I manage the build and finances of the set and props, and I oversee the technical side of the small scale tour.
What do you love about working in opera?
I love working for a company that produces a beautiful creation that can be appreciated all over the country.
10 years ago, did you imagine that you would be working in your Company?
Oddly enough, it was a visit to the Theatre Royal watching Scottish Opera’s Macbeth in May 2000, that I thought to myself “I want to do that” and applied to the RSAMD. 10 years later I was working for Scottish Opera.
If you weren't working in your current job, what would be your ideal profession?
I love working with children and in a past life was a youth worker for North Lanarkshire Council; I would probably have gone into the teaching profession.
What do you do when you're not working?
I like exploring the countryside, driving, cycling or walking, taking photos along the way.
What 3 things might people be surprised to learn about you?
I play the flute, my debut in theatre was at the age of 10 playing Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk in a community panto and I grew up in the church as my father is an Episcopalian Minister.
Where is your favourite place to be in the world?
There is a little town on the Black Isle called Rosemarkie with a beautiful walk through the Fairy Glen. It follows the journey of the stream from where it joins the sea through the glen to an amazing waterfall. Every time I go home I walk the fairy glen to look for the fairies.
