Purcell’sDido and Aeneas
SCOTTISH OPERA’S CONNECT COMPANY
Supported by Scottish Opera's Education Angels
Dido: lovesick Queen of Carthage or self obsessed loner intent on self-destruction?
Aeneas: dedicated lover or fickle, false Trojan Warrior?
Scottish Opera’s Connect Company presents Purcell’s powerful chamber opera in this exciting, fully-staged production.
The young singers, musicians and stage managers, aged 16-21, tell this classic tale of passion and heartbreak in their own inimitable style, with both a nod to the opera’s roots and a distinctive 21st Century edge.
Directed by Scottish Youth Theatre’s Artistic Director Mary McCluskey and designed by Finlay McLay, the Connect Chorus are joined on stage by professional singers Shuna Scott Sendall as Dido, Paul Keohone as Aeneas and former Scottish Opera Emerging Artist Sarah Power as Belinda.
