David Parry conducts this double bill of semi-staged two-handers, the Mascagni a Scottish Opera premiere.

Silvia, a lonely courtesan, has lost her faith in love – until an encounter with a wandering minstrel re-awakens her heart. Set in the hills above Renaissance Florence, Zanetto is a far cry from the earthy grit of Cavalleria rusticana but nonetheless shares the atmosphere and lyricism of Mascagni’s best-loved work.

Wolf-Ferrari's Susanna’s Secret is sophisticated and charming – of the same time as Zanetto, but the perfect comedic contrast. A husband, smelling smoke on his wife’s clothes, accuses her of cheating. She reluctantly admits to having a secret, but it isn’t quite what he expected.
