What the Audience Thought

See what our audiences have had to say about Rodelinda so far:

Macphail Theatre, Ullapool
Superb! Very impressed with the singers and the company generally who clearly work well as a team and are prepared to multitask... hats off to all concerned!

An Lanntair, Stornoway
I'm 13 years old (I love theatre and singing and stuff like this), I live on the Isle of Lewis and my mum and I come and see all the Scottish Opera productions when they come up, we saw Rodelinda last night at An Lanntair and we though it was FAB! :) We liked everything about it, my mum even cried at parts!

Macrobert, Stirling

Fascinating set, which the performers coped with admirably. Lovely music & singing - especially the two countertenors.

The Beacon, Greenock
As a result of last night’s performance by Scottish Opera you now have two fully signed up opera enthusiasts!...The standard of singing was just terrific... Everyone was excellent but Sarah Power as Rodelinda was outstanding and my wife...was quite blown away by Sioned Gwen Davis as Eduige. As she said, not just an amazing voice but tremendous acting ability too....The simple but cleverly designed staging was very effective, as was the lighting... The idea of taking opera to the far corners of Scotland is highly commendable... So thank you for a wonderful night out and we can’t wait for the next tour.

Tait Hall, Kelso
Fantastic singing, particularly from Sarah Power as Rodelinda, innovative staging and sparky accompaniment combined for a brilliant show. Please keep doing these – I have not been to a lacklustre Scottish Opera show since I returned to live in Scotland three years ago.

Wick High School
Marvellous! Nine splendid performers in a great production. I love Handel's operas, but they still have to be well done, and this most certainly was.

Haddo House, Ellon

It was an excellent night, Haddo House was great and the set, cast etc. were all very good... The "mini" orchestra was excellent, and was all that was needed... All in all a good night was had by all...

The Beacon, Greenock
Great performance in great venue (The Beacon, Greenock) with acting, singing (especially), trio, and design all very good.

Nairn Community & Arts Centre

A quite sublime evening of Handel at Nairn on 26.10.13. Every aspect was strong and well-conceived. Singing delightful. The instrumental trio alone was worth the admission price--quite marvellous.

Macphail Theatre, Ullapool
Wonderful adaptation to the space available; the three piece ensemble were superb; the voices excellent; and the production and direction effective/touching/witty.

Victoria Halls, Helensburgh

What a fabulous evening!!! The hall was packed and every scene was applauded and appreciated. The simple set was very effective, and the singers and musicians were top-knotch... All around excellent.

Wick High School
We thoroughly enjoyed this performance last night. There was nothing to pick fault with – it was superb. The accompanying ensemble was terrific with the blend of instruments absolutely perfect to enhance a Handel opera. The singers were a joy to listen to with a beautiful sound whether on solo, duet or as the brief ensemble at the end. We have a particular fondness for counter-tenors and their characteristic singing, to have two was a real treat... All in all, a great night’s entertainment. Can’t wait for the next tour!

Easterbook Hall, Dumfries

It was brilliant! The voices were superb - especially Sarah Power, bell-like - and the musicians were fantastic. Very cleverly done and a joy to experience.

The Beacon, Greenock
I loved this performance – everything about it, from the brilliant singers and musicians to the set... Thank you for choosing Handel!

Eden Court, Inverness

I was delighted to discover the programming of this opera... I have wanted to explore more music of the period, especially in the sympathetic way and size as with this production... Sarah Power beautifully conveyed emotion and moment with her voice. The staging simplicity and touches of humour were enjoyable.

Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline

Lively full sound from three hard-working instrumentalists provided excellent support, with a good balance between voices and accompaniment. Imaginative use of a simple set assisted the story-telling and suggested the period nature of the music, whilst modern dress and acting style combined to make sure we knew that this drama could have happened today... deft touches of humour helped relieve the tension.

An Lanntair, Stornoway

I thought it was fantastic!... especially Rodelinda herself. It is really great to be able to see Scotish Opera performing live in the Hebrides. Please keep coming! Thanks so much for bringing us a truly wonderful production. I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Macrobert, Stirling
Tonight's performance was an absolute delight. I enjoyed it so much I only wish we could have more like it. I thought it was an original 'take' on the opera. The shadowing at the beginning was an excellent way of introducing it...The singing was excellent and I would not want to single out any particular performers, but if asked what I liked best I would say the accompanying trio. I enjoyed the clarity of their playing, more than I think I would have a larger instrumental group. I would rate it as the best performance of an opera that I have seen in the last decade...

Easterbrook Hall, Dumfries
The music was superb, outstanding and made a great contribution to the evening. Beautiful playing by all three musicians. The storyline was very understandable, the diction was good. The singers were great, particularly enjoyed the soprano. A very satisfactory realization of the opera.

Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline

It was superb! The singing, the musical accompaniment, the stage set and the direction. It was a very enjoyable evening for a very good price. Scottish Opera are always fantastic. Perhaps the best thing is that you can actually hear the singers very clearly at these smaller venues with the scaled-down orchestra.

Eden Court, Inverness

From the inventive setting to the amazing musicianship of the accompanists and singers, the whole show was enormously impressive. And it was also such fun! The cast was uniformly good and created a real ensemble piece. The singing was beautiful and the actors managed to convince in what is quite a strange plot.

I know we were not alone in our opinion, judging by the audience response at the end of the show. I am also glad that Scottish Opera goes into all parts of the community - indeed this tour is very far flung! I hope you continue with this good work in the future.
