Supported Digital Package

Get your pupils singing and moving while learning!

New for 2026, our Supported Digital Package provides teachers with a comprehensive set of high-quality learning resources alongside a support visit from one of our teaching artists to help you stage your own show in school.

During your rehearsal process, one of our Scottish Opera artists will visit your school to provide a twilight CPD session for the class teachers. In that session, they will guide and support you in how to rehearse and stage the show, working on elements such as how to position the pupils, move them between songs, and build their stage skills – as you work towards staging your own production.

This project has three stages:

Stage 1 - where you use the music and videos on Scottish Opera’s website to help the pupils learn the songs, practice the dance moves, and get to know the characters in the story. You can also try some of the suggested further activities included in this pack to help your pupils learn more about The Dragon of the Western Sea, learn about the world of opera and theatre, and build excitement for their performance day!

Stage 2 - where one of the Scottish Opera teaching artists visits your school during a twilight CPD session for the class teachers, providing them with tips and tricks on how to manage the rehearsals and prepare your pupils for their performance.

Stage 3 - where all this knowledge and experience feeds into the performance itself.

The Dragon of the Western Sea

In the year 1405, the great Dragon Throne Emperor of China, Zhu Di, has decided it is time his nation expanded its influence beyond the edge of the known world and into the mysterious Western Sea.

He assembles an enormous fleet of mighty ships with 28,000 crew, and fills them with all the treasure and riches of China. Enough to buy the gratitude and friendship of those unknown lands beyond the setting sun.

Only one man could be trusted to lead such a dangerous and important mission, the great Admiral Zheng He, the Dragon of the Western Sea.
