Wagner
Tristan und Isolde
Study Day
Guest speaker Michael Downes OBE, Director of Music at the University of St Andrews, guided us through this compelling tale of forbidden love, sharing his personal insights into the spellbinding music along the way. Michael is well-versed in all things Wagner, having released a book about the Ring cycle entitled Story of the Century, copies of which are available to purchase here - Story of the Century: Wagner and the creation of The Ring.
Musical excerpts that are referenced in the recording have been listed below.
Our Study Days are a relaxed and friendly way to deepen your understanding of our operas, spark your curiosity, ask questions and share ideas with fellow opera lovers. Whether you’re a regular opera-goer or are new to the artform, we’d be delighted to welcome you for a morning of discovery, conversation, and great music.
If you would like to attend any future Study Days, please contact Jill Dykes, Events Manager or phone 0141 242 0593.
