Travel

Train

It is a 0.5 mile walk to the theatre from Waverley Station.

Bus

The Festival Theatre is accessible by many different bus routes across the city. The main Lothian Bus routes which serve the Festival Theatre are: 3, 3A, 5, 7, 8, 14, 29, 30, 31, 33, 37, 47, 49.

Car

There is limited street parking around the Festival Theatre. There is a small car park located about 5 minutes walk from the theatre on Niddry Street (7am - 11pm, 7 days).

Refreshments

The Festival Theatre Café 

Open 10am-4pm Monday to Saturday, and extended to fit around show times, the Festival Theatre Café offers drinks, fresh food and tasty desserts. Find out more: capitaltheatres.com/our-venues/festival-theatre/food-drink/

The Secret Garden Bar

This bar is located on the first floor foyer. This bar offers a full range of drinks.

Champagne Bar

This bar specialises in offering a varied and interesting range of wines, champagne and whiskies. It is located on the first floor foyer. 

Stewart Brewing Bar 

A bar with easy access for those sitting in the Upper Circle.

Access

Audio-described performances & Touch Tours

You can book your audio description service or touch tour by calling Festival Theatre on 0131 529 6000. To attend a touch tour, you must have a ticket for the audio-described performance. Find out more about these services >>

Step-free access and wheelchairs

Access to the front of the theatre is via six steps with a handrail or a pavement ramp. Level access is also available through the side entrance to the café.

Inside the Festival Theatre, all levels are accessible by lift. Lifts are equipped with voice synthesisers for additional support.

There are eight spaces in the stalls for wheelchair users, with adjacent seats for companions. Please pre-book on 0131 622 8109. There are unisex accessible toilets on levels one and two of the theatre – all have emergency call buttons.

Accessible parking

A limited number of spaces are available in the theatre’s courtyard. These must be booked in advance by calling Stage Door on 0131 662 1112 or emailing stagedoor@capitaltheatres.com. Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended, especially for matinees.

Hearing enhancement systems

The Festival Theatre has a Sennheiser infrared system available in central areas of the auditorium. Box office will happily advise you on the best seats for reception. Headsets can be collected, free of charge, from the cloakroom on the lower ground floor level of the Festival Theatre. A Sennheiser personal loop system is available for hearing aid users.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are most welcome at our venues. We will be pleased to look after them during the performance if required. Water bowls are available.
