Audiences in Oman enjoy the pioneering ‘opera for babies’ BambinO

BambinO, the five star ‘opera for babies’, finished its run at The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) in Oman last week.

Lliam Paterson’s unique piece of music theatre for infants aged 6 to 18 months was performed from March 31 to April 6. It was the first time that ROHM had presented a show for children of this age.

Performed by singers Hazel McBain and Samuel Pantcheff with musicians Andrew Drummond Huggan and Michael D Clark, BambinO was called ‘an enriching experience’ by the Oman Observer.

Pictured in the above photograph is ROHM board member, His Highness, Kamil Al Said, who attended a BambinO performance with his son and met the cast.

Directed by Improbable’s Phelim McDermottBambinO had sell-out runs in Paris, at New York’s Metropolitan Opera and Edinburgh Festival Fringe last year.  BambinO was commissioned and produced by Scottish Opera, Manchester International Festival and Improbable.  It is supported by Scottish Opera’s New Commissions Circle and Scottish Opera’s Education Angels.

Following the popularity of BambinO, Lliam Paterson has written a brand new opera for 12 to 24 month olds. Fox-tot!, a new co-commission with Royal & Derngate, Northampton, has its world premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer.
