SCOTTISH OPERA'S NIXON IN CHINA NOMINATED FOR RPS AWARD

We are thrilled to be nominated at the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards in the Opera and Theatre Category for our production of Nixon in China earlier this year.

The shortlist was announced live on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune with 11 categories, each highlighting the important role and reach of classical music. Other nominees in the Opera and Theatre Category include Opera Park Holland and Garsington Opera for ‘The Turn of the Screw’.

Nixon in China was praised by critics in February this year, as part of the Company’s 2019/20 Season.

The production, directed by John Fulljames was cleverly brought to the stage over five performances in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Showcasing John Adams’ score and Alice Goodman’s poetic libretto, this new co-production with The Royal Danish Theatre and Teatro Real Madrid follows Richard Nixon’s much-publicised visit to China in 1972.

We are delighted to have this work recognised and to be considered at the RPS Awards.

Winners will be announced at the 2020 RPS Awards digital broadcast at 7pm on Wednesday 18 November on the RPS website.
