First performed in 2017 at theatres across Scotland, The Opera Factory features a cast of actors and singers, who are joined on stage by the full forces of The Orchestra of Scottish Opera. Pupils will learn about different sections of the Orchestra, from woodwind and brass to strings and percussion. They will also hear a cast of singers demonstrating the different voice types, showing how they can create stories and get into character, from feisty heroines to scheming villains!
The Opera Factory is a perfect first taste to introduce P3 & P4 pupils to opera. Children will have the chance to enjoy a memorable experience out of the classroom discovering how all aspects of opera come together, learning that teamwork can lead to success. Children can get involved too, by learning a song in class in advance of the performance so they can join in on the day.
Director of Outreach and Education Jane Davidson MBE said: ‘The Opera Factory is a brilliant opportunity for us to bring a laugh-out-loud performance to school pupils in Renfrewshire and the surrounding area. Opera is the perfect way to find out about the inner workings of life in the theatre – from the singers and musicians on stage to those who design costumes and props, provide scenery and lighting and much, much more.
We’re also giving schools the opportunity to apply for bus bursaries, to help with the rising cost of transport for trips. We hope that this funding will encourage schools to come along and give opera a go.’
Free tickets for school groups can now be booked here, where you will also find details on how schools can apply for a travel bursary.
