FREE PERFORMANCES OF SCOTTISH OPERA’S BE A SPORT, SPIKE! AT GLASGOW 2026 FESTIVAL

This July and August, we are presenting free performances of the children’s opera, Be a Sport, Spike!, as part of Glasgow 2026 Festival which celebrates the return of the Commonwealth Games to the city.

No ticket is required for these family friendly, 30-minute Pop-up Opera shows, on 22 July at Molendinar Community Centre, 31 July at Victoria Park Commonwealth Games Community Gala Festival, and 1 August at Glasgow Canal Quest at Stockingfield Bridge.

Whether you are a seasoned fan or have never seen an opera before, these bite-sized, illustrated shows, supported by Glasgow 2026 Festival Fund, are designed to be welcoming, understandable, and open to everyone.

Be a Sport, Spike! by Karen MacIver and Ross Stenhouse, and directed by Darren Brownlie of River City fame, is brought to life by two singers and two instrumentalists, telling the story of Mike 'The Spike’ McTavish, the world’s greatest sportsman.

There are other chances to catch free, indoor and outdoor, performances of Be a Sport, Spike!, which are not part of the Glasgow 2026 Festival, at Kinning Park Complex on 23 July, Provan Hall in Easterhouse on 24 July, Springburn Auditorium CIC on 25 July, Pollokshields Burgh Hall on 28 July, Barrowfield Community Centre on 29 July and The Pyramid on 30 July.
